Ollie's closeup
...thoughts from Ollie's peasized brain...
HOWDY BUCKAROOS! I'm Ollie, a long nosed leopard lizard. I hail from Murrietta, Nevada but I currently hang my hat in San Diego. Although I was born August 2004, I'm a hardcore Democrat. But above all else, I loves them crickets!

Saturday, April 1

The end of this blog

Ollie passed away this morning, April 1, sometime between midnight and 7 a.m. He had just seen the doctor Thursday afternoon and seemed to be on the rebound. But Saturday morning was found to be in a sleeping position and could not be woken up. He seemed to have gone peacefully.

Ollie was adopted in Murrieta, Nevada, the first of his clutch and only a few days old. From the moment he was adopted, he showed a unique personality. Usually sleeping the first few months and then feverishly chasing after crickets soon after. He was only year and seven months.

I know Ollie was only a lizard but he brought a lot of happiness to my life. Ollie also gave me a respect for all life: tiny or large, furry or with scales. The most suprising thing were the responses on this blog in regards to Ollie. I'll miss him for a very long time. He'll be buried in the desert in East San Diego where the other lizards roam free.

Good bye, lil' Ollie.
Darlene

Ollie's final resting place
Ollie was buried on a bright Sunday morning in the quiet desert between San Diego and El Centro. On a rock covering his grave is a stoned shellacked with his first newspaper clipping from the North Park News.

Things Darlene and I learned from Ollie

1. Sleepy leopard lizards like to snuggle in warm hands.
2. Leave the front door open an inch and he'll run away and spend the night under the dishwasher.
3. Once afraid of Russell, always afraid of Russell.
4. Lizards with full tummys can puke.
5. Those twitchy toes are because of calcium deficiency, not caffeine.
6. Anoles do not make good roommates (see #7).
7. Leopard lizards heart crickets. And moths, grasshoppers, mealworms, alligator lizards, blue-bellies, geckos, flies, bees, baby food and baby mice.
8. Area rugs are among leopard lizards' favorite places to crap.
9. Leopard lizards can absolutely see in color (see #10).
10. Leopard lizards get horny at a very early age (Nicky had it goin' on).
11. Leopard lizards sometimes fart.
12. Baby leopard lizards have a low tolerance for the hot sun.
13. Stretch daily.
14. Paintbrushes tickle.
15. When you go to bed at night, always shut the door.
16. Red spots mean you're underage... and small enough to eat (Paris and Vic would never do that, tho).
17. Watch out for uncooth visiting relatives who might make bad houseguests and try to bugger you (we're talking to you, Sprinkles!).
18. Sometimes, if you know you're going to take a really big shit, you need to lie on your stomach and raise both legs off the ground.
19. Chandeliers never stop being interesting.
20. A little lizard from Nevada can have friends from around the world.

We love you, little trooper. You will always be in our thoughts.

Bye, bye Ollie...you were the only lizard we knew and you taught us a lot about your kind and how interesting you made life for your pets. We bet when you made it over the Rainbow Bridge you looked for a carpet to poop on (olr man horn post). ~Poiland Tribe

We would have loved to have you for dinner, but alas never got the chance ~Merlin, Shadow, KO Ko

I've only read Ollie a couple of times before, but I'm sure sorry he's gone. He was a quirky little dude.

Ollie,
You were such a cute, sweet lizard. The world will be a little less fun without you.

I'm so sorry you lost your Ollie. Your blog has made me smile a great deal and I'm always pleased to hear about other herp lovers. I hope that your heart finds many more scaly loves in the future.
